Committed to quality

While traveling across Poland and Europe, we encountered many different forms of accommodation and various visions of leisure. From these experiences—and the preferences they shaped—emerged a vision we can sum up in a few words: Away from the crowds, close to nature, yet comfortable, spacious, simple, and harmonious. More of a cottage than a hotel. Or rather, a home—because we wanted to have enough space to stay there with friends and comfortably share a well-designed, generously sized interior.

That’s what Graniasty was meant to be—and we hope that’s how it will feel to you.

Let’s start with the location—the plot of land. We spent nearly a year searching for a piece of land where we could realize our dream of a comfortable holiday home for ourselves and for guests. We wanted space, proximity to the forest, trees surrounding the house—not just an empty field. We wanted to be able to step straight from the property into a walk or bike ride. We were looking for privacy, but also good access, since we planned to use it year-round.

After viewing dozens of options across the Kashubian region, we decided to return to the very first one—with little hope it would still be available. To our surprise, it was. And that’s how we became the owners of 3,200 m² in the village of Smażyno.

Then came the design phase, which we entrusted to the architectural studio BALANS in Poznań. We were captivated by their bold vision of a geometric building. Although we liked the idea of a barn-style house—and builders tried to convince us it would be easier to construct and maintain—we chose to follow the architect’s concept.

Our “tilted square” design was complemented by an unusual first-floor terrace, creating a pleasant recreational space among the treetops, with a view of a forest lake.
